HI, I'm Sarah and I'm an artist based on the sunny south coast of the UK.

I was drawn to art from a very young age and remember being fascinated by a poster of Henri Matisse's "Nu Bleu IV" on my parents wall and a book called Faeries by Brian Froud and Alan Lee, which I still have and cherish to this day. I don't know how many times I tried to copy the pictures in that book but I'm sure there's an empty patch of woodland somewhere with my name on it.

I've been creative for as long as I can remember but not only  because I enjoyed it. As a child I drew and wrote stories because I found solace in my imagination and then as a teenager I painted because I wanted life to be more colourful than what I had experienced of it. I always loved art but at that time I used it solely as an escape.
Now I create for a number of reasons...
1) It's how I cope with mental health issues that can be distressing and absolutely relentless at times.
2) I love to capture details in nature like the way a leaf curls as it dries or how light dances across water.
3) I feel the need to give life to worlds and characters that continue to grow in my imagination.
4) I believe art makes the world a more beautiful place to be and lastly...
5) It makes me happy.
I think creativity is extremely important and I will always encourage others to give it a go whether it's painting, music, dancing, writing, flower arranging or making a questionable looking ice cream from Playdoh!
